The Relocate Principle - Starting Fresh When Survival Demands It

In bushcraft, the Relocate Principle is about knowing when to move camp—floodwaters rise, game runs dry, or danger closes in. It’s not failure; it’s adapting to live another day. In preparedness, it’s the same: sometimes life calls for a fresh start—a new venture, skill set, or relationship.

The Relocate Principle - Starting Fresh When Survival Demands It

How do we embrace relocation when the old ground gives out?

Survival and Relocation: Moving to Thrive

In the wild, staying put when conditions turn sour is a death sentence. A smart bushcrafter relocates—higher ground, better resources, safer site. Life’s no different: a failing plan, a tapped-out season, or a broken bond might mean it’s time to pack up and rebuild. God says, “I am doing a new thing” (Isaiah 43:19)—relocation’s His rhythm.

When to Move:

  • Depleted Ground – No growth or gain? Time to shift.

  • Rising Threats – Chaos or toxicity signals a need to go.

  • Fresh Calling – God’s pull to new territory trumps the old camp.

Applying the Relocate Principle

  1. Read the Signs – Check your situation—business, skills, or ties—like you’d read the weather.

  2. Travel Light – Drop what weighs you down, keeping only what serves the journey.

  3. Follow the Compass – Let God’s Word point you to the next site, not fear.

  4. Set New Stakes – Build with faith and grit, trusting the reset.

Relocating in survival keeps you alive. In faith, it renews you. Jesus left the tomb for a new dawn—your relocation can spark a stronger fire too.

Life Application Questions:

  1. What part of my life feels like a flooded camp needing relocation?

  2. Am I clinging to the old out of habit or doubt?

  3. How has God led me through past moves to better ground?

  4. What survival skills can I use to rebuild after a reset?

  5. Do I trust Him to guide me to a fresh start with purpose?

This marks four weeks with this blog style, I tried to change things up to provide solid lessons that affect our lives in more dynamic ways we often don't talk about in the survival and bushcraft community. However, this is how we've always done it around the campfire here at Campcraft Outdoors. I've simply condensed some of this life-coaching into bite sized principles we can all remember.

Let me know in the comments if you want this to continue! - Jason

The synchronicity of this article connected with me at a time when allowing some close to me go from my life. It is difficult as I want to help them (I am 70 they are in their 30s and 40s). So...Jason...thanks for being there with a word at the right moment.
